Core Areas

Cross-disciplinary, systems thinking for a better world.

Applied Psychology

Areas such as psychology, sociology, and history help us understand our own behavior, how people behave in groups, and how to approach group dynamics, whether at school or at work. Our work is grounded in critical theory, family systems theory, trauma-informed practices, psychodynamic theory, and social psychology.

Applied Ethics

We approach ethics from a personal and communal standpoint. Personal values guide our actions, so the more aware we are of them, the better. But we set rules, laws, and norms communally. Sometimes we act to change laws or norms that are outmoded or unfair. Disinformation makes it difficult to reach consensus, so we learn rhetorical tools, such as logical thinking and ethical philosophies to understand our world.

Inclusive, Trauma-Informed Practices

Adulting for Teens is an inclusive, affirming organization that adheres to evidence-based practices regarding gender, sex, race, and ability. We celebrate difference and are always striving to improve our awareness and learn new things. We don’t seek perfection; we welcome continuous learning, and normalize recognizing and repairing harm, intended or not.

Systems Thinking

Understanding how our lives are interconnected with our environment, social systems, histories, and cultural systems is vital to creating an equitable, ethical future. We are informed by General Systems Theory, and a multi-disciplinary approach to integrating new knowledge.
